How to tell people to create new threads instead of hijacking existing ones?

FYI: This thread was split from another one, because people started to hijack existing threads and I didn't understand why exactly?

@Rosefinch @Luna-Sea @Ritzuko @Mycka Did you people try to create a new thread, because it's part of the challenge or do you want to participate in this existing thread? Because it somehow looks like you don't talk about the same topic, but just started to talk about other stuff, even if it's the same challenge.

Please let me know how I can improve the sentence on Habitica so people will understand they have to create a new thread instead of a new post in an existing thread. Will it help if I write "new discussion" instead of "new thread" and maybe instead of forum category I should use sub forum, because every challenge has it's own place ?

"Share your experience and tips by creating a new discussion in this sub forum"

and can it help to put extra information there, like:

"Please do not post your experience and tips in existing discussions, because the bot will only look for new threads, not posts, and thread high-jacking is prohibited on the forum."

Or is it even more confusing with more text? Please let me know how I can improve this to avoid confusion?

I will install an extension tomorrow to split all those posts here into own threads/discussions.

btw. it feels really good to see some familiar names here. 🙂

EDIT: Can it be that the mobile version of the forum is confusing, because on the desktop version it shows a buttong with the text "Start a discussion", but on the mobile version it's only an icon in the top right corner?

While looking at those screenshots I had another theory: people thought they have to write into this thread, because it's the only one, which exists currently and this might change if there are more threads/discussions.

maxmoon At habitica we post our experiences and tips in the chat using the challenge's emoji and everything, that's what I did with the post.

Yes, opening a new discussion is exactly what I meant by "a new thread" and I am worried mobile users do not understand it because the "Start a discussion" text-button is not there like on the desktop (see screenshots above).

And I would love it to see people to share more tips in their new threads/discussions. I mean, there isn't a 3k character limit, like it was on the Habitica chat 😛

Only if you see the sub forums like sub reddits. But this is a classical forum with linear discussions. On Reddit you can start x new side threads on an existing discussion.

It has been much clearer now. I wrote a few days ago because the to-do said I should share my experience and tips in the keep a diary corner. So I thought I should write there.
